What is a hangover?

A hangover is a combination of factors and symptoms caused not only by the alcohol itself, but additives in many alcoholic beverages which go through a fermentation process that gives them flavor, aroma and color. The by-products of the fermentation process are called congeners. When released into your bloodstream, congeners cause a reaction leading to inflammation, pain and nausea as your body battles to cleanse itself of the toxins.
